Finding College Scholarships

College scholarships can been seen as gifts, a gift of a college education or a type of grant that does not need to be repaid. There are many ways for one to find a college scholarship, as many places in different communities offer them, such as; schools, religious groups, private companies, and employers to name a few.

Some scholarships will cover your full tuition costs, while others will partly fund the tuition, but regardless, they are worth applying for to bring down the cost of your college education. There are merit based scholarships which get earned only when certain educational milestones are met by the student, and other scholarships which may be based on your traits, or financial situations, current academic performance, or other notable achievements.

There are several ways to find out about the different scholarships available for students. Listed below are free sources for finding scholarships, but be aware that there are also many scams out there offering false scholarships too, so have your wits about you when searching and applying. Be sure to carefully read the terms and conditions for each scholarship thoroughly before applying.
• Contact the financial aid office at the college that you wish to attend and ask about available scholarships.

• Religious groups and communities often offer scholarships to its members
• Foundations/Charities provide scholarships to financially insecure students, search around for ones in your local area.

If you have found a suitable scholarship and wish to apply, remember that each scholarship has a deadline for applying, some deadlines are as early as a year before you attend college, you should ideally be searching for scholarships during your junior and senior years.
